That’s a wrap!
The 2019 HCC was a huge success – and we couldn’t have done it without our valued delegates! From November 17 to 19, we welcomed more than 1,600 of you for an unparalleled opportunity to come together to learn, connect and find new ways to tackle the housing challenges ahead.
We added new features this year to enhance your experience – in the tradeshow Demo Deck
we saw in action some of the products and services that can help our housing providers and co-ops deliver better housing and programs. The Insite Virtual Reality booth was a busy spot throughout the conference, giving users a chance to explore the realities of the groundbreaking safe injection site in a whole new way. And in the Living Room, our LGBTQIA delegates and others found a safe, quiet space for discussion and reflection. The second annual Art Expo and the installation by D Gillian Turner also brought a strong creative energy to the final day of the conference.
Of course, no conference would be complete without an outstanding lineup of keynotes
– and this year’s definitely did not disappoint! From the welcoming address by Hon. Selina Robinson to Dr. Mark Joseph, Senator Murray Sinclair, Shachi Kurl and Dr. Brian Goldman, we were moved, inspired, and challenged in new ways. And the messages we heard in the concluding panel on youth aging out of care were a powerful reminder to include young people in our housing solutions.
We were proud to kick things off with new pre-conference activities
as well. The Vancity Housing Impact Talks and Community Housing Climate Change Cafe were a catalyst that sparked meaningful discussion throughout the conference. Thank you as well for joining us at the Welcome Social, the Sector Supper – where we celebrated the BCNPHA award
recipients and the successes of the entire community housing sector – the BC Housing Meet ‘n’ Mingle, and the Young Professionals event, which offered fun ways for delegates to relax and network.
We hope you enjoyed an enriching conference experience and have returned to work full of new ideas, connections and inspiration for the work ahead. Thank you for making the 2019 Housing Central Conference our best yet, and we look forward to welcoming you back next year. Be sure to save the date for next year’s Housing Central Conference, from November 15 to 17, 2020.
